Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Pc Controls

Here nosotros are again, everyone: an anime game based on a franchise of which I accept basically no first-hand knowledge. I did lookout a few episodes of Dragon Ball Z! In that location were some screaming people and I think one thing happened over the course of three episodes. We didn't really go on.

I actually debated whether or not it was worth writing this article, because the truth is that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is – in port terms – very, very close to Dragon Ball Xenoverse. But then once more, if yous weren't reading this article, you might non know that! Which I suppose makes this article worth writing.

The brusk version is that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 runs at 60 FPS, has tolerable mouse/keyboard controls, doesn't take too many detailed options just plenty to remove most of the visual annoyances, looks largely okay, and is Fanservice: The Game: The Sequel. Equally for the long version…

But in case you were in whatsoever doubt as to whether or non this was actually Dragon Ball.

Permit's get-go with the options. Of the five sub-menus, we should probably accept a gander at Graphics Settings showtime.

So, good news: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 supports resolutions up to 3840×2160. DBX may have too done this; it wouldn't allow me (at least) try setting it above 1920×1080, but I was never able to tell whether that was a restriction based on my monitor. Either fashion, it's not a problem here.

Advanced settings are slightly limited, but what they offer up is good stuff. You've got bones stuff similar lite shafts and massive particles (and I've only but realised that putting those two together sounds surprisingly filthy), only the big ones to me are things like motion blur and glare level. It might just exist me, but with everything whacked up to full, Dragon Ball Xenoverse ii looks similar ass. It'southward really a less-is-more than thing: with some of this stuff turned off, it looks precipitous and crisp and lovely, but with everything ramped up… blergh.

Mayhap personal gustation, but I do much prefer the crispness of having most of the settings turned off, as in the second picture. Although these peradventure aren't the all-time comparison shots.

We demand to talk about the controls, merely I do want to briefly mention the Game Settings menu, if only considering it has a Voice Chat Microphone and a Vocalisation Volume option. Aye, you can disable and mute vox chat. Considering and so many games forget about this, I hereby offer up a toast to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 for making sure I don't have to heed to other people.

Anyway, controls. Everything is redefineable, which is great, merely I have a weird confession to make: this time effectually, I actually prefer the mouse and keyboard controls to gamepad.

Attacks on the mouse buttons and Q, Space to jump or fly, Shift to move faster… yep, that all seems okay to me.

That's non to say they're better than gamepad, because the controls are all the same very clearly defined for that particular input device. Notwithstanding, I couldn't be bothered footling with the Steam Controller to make targeting via the trackpad less neurotic and twitchy, and I didn't have to because the mouse/keyboard controls are entirely serviceable.

They weren't too bad terminal time around either, but some more thought has been given to them this time out. Switching target is now leap to mouse bike up and down instead of tab, for instance, which is infinitely preferable considering the mouse cycle itself is the target lock button. Non everything is great by default (changing descend to CTRL is practically essential, because having it set to ALT is far from ideal, and every bit CTRL is a pretty mutual key for crouching anyway…) but I institute the mouse and keyboard controls to be workable and playable.

This knee to the face brought to you by mouse and keyboard controls.

That said, because the mouse and keyboard controls take been reworked pretty heavily, whatever muscle retentiveness you have from the first game will screw you over.

And alas, they're still not perfect. A few of the issues from Xenoverse yet persist into Xenoverse 2: at that place's still no mouse support in menus, for instance, and you'll however employ the arrow keys and Return instead of WASD and your Interact primal to move through them. Something I don't recollect from the original game is that Q is the button to talk to people… but Q is also the rapid text skip button, with Return being the normal "Yes, I've read this, next line please" central. In short, you lot'll still need three hands for navigating the menus and the non-gainsay sections of the game, but you at least only demand two for the gameplay itself.

This is an aside, only I really didn't know dragons had and then many assurance. I can understand why they'd exist happy when you return them, though.

In general technical terms, I don't have too many complaints. The game runs fine at 60 FPS regardless of the settings I utilise, but that'due south probably non surprising for a an i7-3820 with sixteen GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 970, as information technology'south inappreciably the well-nigh graphically intensive thing. It does take one hilarious bug in that taking a screenshot while moving through the game's hub town caused me to autumn through the floor until I respawned in town a few seconds afterward, but for all I know that's a direct reference to Dragon Ball Z. Maybe a graphic symbol gets his film taken and information technology causes chaos. Who knows?

In fairness, if I had the option to angrily sink through the floor whenever someone took my moving picture, I'd probably take it too.

95% of the time it also picks up on what control scheme you're using and presents yous with the appropriate hotkeys, and it'll automatically switch these over if, say, you decide to pick upwardly a gamepad halfway through a conversation and start using it immediately. Later a couple of hours, I've only once seen it display a gamepad button prompt while playing on mouse and keyboard.

In that location's ane affair I'm very wary of, mind you lot. Remember this from Dragon Ball Xenoverse?

I should probably have included some sort of warning about this screenshot before in the piece. (And for description'due south sake: aye, this is a picture from Xenoverse 1, non Xenoverse 2.)

Yeaaah. Most of my play has been prior to the game's official launch (I've only spent about twenty minutes with it mail-launch) and so I have no thought if this problem is going to pop upwards again. Correct at present the servers seem fine – and they'll hopefully remain that way – just I wouldn't be entirely surprised if, at to the lowest degree one time over the side by side few days, people outset seeing that dreaded message again. And no, I'yard afraid I have no idea how the netcode is at this point.

Technical stuff bated, I suspect Dragon Ball Xenoverse ii volition please fans of the Dragon Ball franchise. Information technology over again lets you create your own protagonist, interact with favourite characters, partake in favourite battles from the series thanks to the time-travelling plot, and basically insert yourself into the Dragon Brawl earth. I tin can't speak too much to the combat system itself; information technology seems fairly simplistic, but I suspect the constant stat gain and unlocking of moves means that there's some degree of depth for those who really want to delve into that side of things. Notwithstanding, information technology definitely seems more than like one for the fans than one for the fighting hardcore.

In short, information technology's an okay port. Non an amazing one that's super-focused on the PC, just certainly not a terrible one that'southward been roughly shunted onto this organization without whatever sort of care and attention. If you were satisfied with the original game'due south PC port and so I doubt yous'll feel whatever worse about this 1; if you lot haven't tried that, so you don't actually need to fear this besides much.
